This is a topic that rarely ever comes up in the rush before the wedding day. Everyone is concerned with guest lists, organizing food and venues, that the bride or groom usually forget that it’s all about them. Of course, these things are important… but so are making sure to remember that you are a priority.
If you are the bride or groom, your wedding day is a memory that will be remembered forever.
And there is a little known secret (which I’ll reveal shortly), that can be used to instantly “transport” you back to that day.
Many couples have something called a “wedding song”, which is remembered for years to come. Whenever the song plays, vivid memories of the wedding also conjure up in our consciousness and give us back feelings and emotions we felt at that time.
However, what we’re about to discuss is something similar, but isn’t as widely known: It’s choosing a memorable perfume or cologne that can “anchored” to your wedding day. To elaborate, an “anchor” is when something is emotionally tied to a person, or an object. For example, if you’ve ever smelled someones cologne, the smell of freshly baked cookies, or even something unpleasant, has it ever reminded you of times that you previously were exposed to that smell?
Of course you have. It’s one of the most primal senses that us humans have at our disposal.
And much like “wedding songs”, the fragrance you rock on your wedding day can have similar effects on us. Emotions and memories tied to your wedding day can be anchored to a fragrance you are wearing. It’s like being able to imprint on someone, except you are “imprinting” on someone you will know for years to com.
So the question is, what’s the best fragrance to choose?
Doing this doesn’t have to be a secret from your significant other. The ideal choice would be to spray on something that is enjoyed by both parties. If anything, using a fragrance from a niche vendor is likely to be more “special” than a mainstream brand, as they will be much less common. You will be less likely to run into people wearing relatively unknown companies products. Some people even choose pheromone products to spice up their love life and bring in more special memories – just be sure to avoid certain scam products like Pherazone.
For this reason, it’s a great date idea, or something you can do in preparation of your wedding that will benefit you for an entire lifetime.
Some of this might sound a little “out there” – but apart from having personal experiences where certain smells can trigger feelings (good or bad), there actually is scientific evidence to back it up. Interestingly enough, the “olfactory bulb” has connections to two brain areas that are strongly related to emotion and memory: the amygdala and hippocampus.
While we won’t go too in depth on the science, it definitely makes for an interesting concept that everyone can and should take advantage of!
We wish you well on your wedding day and the future.
